Did you ever see “Peggy Sue Got Married”? It has a few layers!

I enjoy stories with time distortions in all different ways.  It started with “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” by Mark Twain when I was very young!

This movie was wonderfully directed by Francis Ford Coppola and it was released in 1986, just 2 years after I was married.

A very brief overview of the story, is that Peggy Sue is married to Nicolas Cage’s character, and they are at their 25 year high school reunion.  They are planning a divorce.  Peggy Sue faints at the reunion and wakes up back in her senior year of high school.  Some of it is fun once she gets her bearings.  There is a lot of internal conflict as she tries to make different choices than she originally made as a teen.

She makes friends with the science geeky guy, and asks him if Time Travel is possible.  Then she teaches him about the future, and tells him what to invest in…..

She also dates the guy that she always missed getting to know better.  A deep poetic soul.

The movie is fun, and extremely well written by a husband and wife team Jerry Leichtling and Arlene Sarner.

This film was truly a “family affair”.  The director Francis Ford Coppola is the uncle of Nicolas Cage, and the father to Sofia who plays Peggy Sue’s younger sister.  Sofia is a famous director in her own right now.

Music plays a huge role in the film.  Everything about recreating 1960 was done so well, and the music was a character as well.

The film was nominated for 3 Academy awards, including Best Actress for Kathleen Turner.

I saw that movie ages ago and I would watch it again. Even if it is a bit of a chick flick…

I never bothered watching that as I thought it was some sort of romance. Just goes to show you to never judge a book (or video) by its cover. I really enjoy period pieces that recreate an era so I might have to give this another look.

It is a romance, too. I just love the story lines and the music.

Never seen it Sally. But you’ve got me intriguied. I also love films that move back and forwards through time so I wont be at a loss of what to rent when I’m next at the video shop.

Peggy Sue Got Married – my absolute All Time Favorite movie! I never tire of watching it. Another good one is Somewhere in Time. Have you seen it, Sally? Guess I’m just a sucker for time travel. Great blog. Thanks. 🙂

Me, too. Time travel is my favorite type of story! I also love the Time Traveller’s Wife. Yes, I know Somewhere in Time very well. Beautiful music in that movie as well.
